Kickin' It Old School, Felt Board Style

Motherhood has made me nothing if not sentimental and in one of my many attempts to recreate pieces of my childhood for my girls, I thought it would be fun to have a good old felt board! I fell in love with some storyboards from an Etsy shop that is unfortunately not currently doing business, so I decided to do my best to recreate some on my own. The easiest way I found to make the more detailed pieces, was to draw the image on freezer paper, iron it (shiny side down) to the felt, and then cut the shape out.

So far we have…

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie:
…The Itsy, Bitsy, Spider:
…The Very Hungry Caterpillar
…and a slightly incomplete, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?:
Sydney, "Uuuh, that doesn't really look like a white dog."
The board is a craft store canvas, wrapped tight with felt, and stapled on the back.

So far Sydney loves it, although she has already requested that I make more pieces. Luck for her, they are kind of fun to do. I'm planning on making some generic "scene" pieces, (barn, trees, grass, pond, etc.) so that she can create her own stories too... and maybe an ocean creature set. Or trains, planes and automobiles? Endless possibilities!

All Things Love

Last Thursday we made sweetie-pies to take to daycare on Valentines Day. These little pie pops were so easy to make and really good too!

Our Valentine's eventing was relaxed, cozy, and lovely. Jon made an awesome fajita dinner and brought home sparkling wine and we let the girls go crazy with dessert pancakes and a movie.

On the right is my favorite drawing of Sydney's so far. Her name, (which she proudly writes on everything now), hearts, and our family. She said, regarding the little blue one, "This is Lillian. I'm holding her hand because I love her."

P.S. - Why is Jon the only one who gets pants and shoes?

It's a good thing Sydney loves her, because Lilly is her shadow. She follows her everywhere and imitates every move.

I feel like I owe my big sisters an apology; gosh that must have been annoying!

My bad.

Quick weekend post and a Valentine DIY.

It's been a long day of movies and snuggling with this sick little girl, but I think we have finally peaked and will be back to ballet shows and princess dresses soon.

In happier news, some things we've been enjoying this week:

Kisses. Up until this past week Lilly had always stubbornly refused to give kisses. Now she gives them freely, sometimes without even being asked. I am in love with this new phase!

Gourmet meals prepared by an award winning chef.

This awestruck face. Same one from the ballet, this time from seeing the "real" Flynn Rider singing on a youtube video.

Speaking of youtube videos…this song. She is obsessed (Not gonna lie, I kinda love it too). I have a suspicion we will be buying this movie once it is available.

Making valentines. I saw these adorable heart crayons online last year and finally decided it was time to make use of all our broken crayon bits. Just give the crayons a chop, throw them in a silicone mold and bake at 230 degrees until melted (about 15 minutes or so depending on the size). Once they are completely cooled you can pop 'em out and enjoy!

Finished ours off with hot glue, circle cutouts, and bakers twine.
Happy weekend friends!
